• VANCOUVER JINGYUN OPERA ASSOCIATION

Established in 2017, the Vancouver Jingyun Opera Associationaims to popularize traditional Chinese culture and foster cultural exchange
between China and Canada; the association has since become a hub for the art of Peking opera in Greater Vancouver.

We host and participate in many events in the lower mainland, including charity shows, collaborative performances such as the Vancouver Chinese Traditional Opera Showcase, and educational lectures about Peking opera and its time-honoured traditions. Even during the pandemic, we continued to hold online concerts to widespread acclaim. In recent years, the association has appeared at many major cultural festivals, as well as being invited by the Chinese Consulate General in Vancouver for its Peking opera events. We have organized two successful editions of our own Jingyun Opera Festival, a celebration of Peking opera featuring lectures, masterclasses, and performances. For these, we have received congratulatory letters from the Chinese Embassy and all levels of Canadian government. Consular officials, Members of Parliament, and mayors have also personally attended our festival to show their support.

In the local community, we maintain ties with other Peking operagroups in the area and continue to actively participate in cultural events, further enriching Vancouver’s diverse artistic landscape. Together with all lovers of Peking opera, we aim to carry on the enduring legacy of this beautiful art.
